Where to ride, how far, and how to get home again.
A new, independent guide to riding in Australia: rail trails, cycle touring, bikepacking and mountain bike towns. We're starting in WA's South West.
The Munda Biddi Trail, end to end. Off-road from Mundaring to Albany, with 12 free huts.
Find your kind of ride
Every guide says who it suits, so you can skip straight to yours. Here's what's coming first.
Easy days on old railway lines
Flat-ish rail trails with the details that make a day work: where to park, where to hire an e-bike, which cafés are open, and shuttles so you only ride one way.
Suits families, e-bike riders and anyone easing back into it. Out now: the Wadandi Track, Rottnest by bike, 13 family rides around Perth and five of Australia's best rail trails.
Multi-day trips, planned properly
Long routes broken into days you can actually ride, with where to sleep, where to buy food, and how to get you and your bike home from the far end.
Suits cycle tourers and bikepackers. The Munda Biddi guide is out now, along with North Stradbroke Island by bike and how to load panniers. All WA touring routes.
Trail towns for a weekend
Collie, Dwellingup, Margaret River and Pemberton: which trails to ride first, where to get a shuttle, and where to stay with a bike.
Suits mountain bikers, from first blue trail to full weekend. See WA's mountain bike towns.
Gravel through jarrah and karri
Loops on forest roads and quiet back roads, with surfaces, water stops and the bits worth avoiding after rain.
Suits gravel riders and anyone with fat-ish tyres and a free Saturday. See WA's gravel routes.

Who's behind it
Cycle Traveller is run by Shane in Busselton, in WA's South West. It's independent: no trail body, tour company or bike brand owns it or pays for what it says.
Every guide is built from checked facts with sources and dates, plus our own notes and photos where we have them. When a page links to a booking or product that pays us a commission, that page says so.
We link to the people who look after the trails, like the Munda Biddi Trail Foundation and Rail Trails Australia. Join them and support their work.
About the name. From about 2012 to 2019, cycletraveller.com.au was home to an Australian cycle-touring magazine. That publication has closed. This is a new, independent site with all-new writing. It isn't connected to the former magazine or its writers, or to the UK magazine of the same name.
