Get ready for Australia's first major bicycle touring routes

There are just three weeks to go until Simon and I fly to Adelaide to start the cycling phase of The Australian Bicycle Route Project and the excitement is building. We've been working on this project for over a year now, but now that we've just launched the new website to explain it to everyone, everything feels so much more real.

Thank you all for your messages of support. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the details at:

But in a nutshell, we've set about developing some world-class bicycle touring routes for Australia. Think EuroVelo or the Adventure Cycling Association routes in the United States – but Aussie!

Over the past year we've been out doing detailed vehicle reconnaissance to make sure we knew all our options before selecting the best routes available, and we're more than excited about what we've found. We consider ourselves fairly well travelled and we thought we knew Australia quite well – but we were absolutely blown away by what we found and we can't wait to get back out there on the bikes and ride it. There is so much beauty in this land.

So, the countdown is on. It's time to get on the bike and test-ride what we've discovered. Finally, after more than a year of planning, things are really taking shape.

The best part is that everything about these two fantastic routes we'll be test-riding – The Red Centre Route from Adelaide to Darwin and The GDR Route (Great Dividing Range) from Cairns to Adelaide – will be documented and mapped so others can share the experience.

But first, we'll need some bikes! We'll be tackling this little adventure – almost 10,000km of Aussie roads – on our two custom built Clamonts. Geoff Scott is a true legend of the frame building world and he's done a brilliant job on our frames. I'm itching to get some parts on them so we can take them for a spin. Will update you on how they're coming along.

Yep, site is super cool. Can't wait to see what it brings. Nice one guys.

Wishing you both all the very best of good fortune on this fantastic project.
